These are two of my pieces that I have made for the ten bowls project. I am finishing us this project, having created ten bowls, but I have run into some difficulty because one of my bowls went missing and I messed one up while trimming. The bowl on the left was the first bowl that I made. I chose to paint it white and I don't really like the foot much. The one on the right is a bowl that has not been bisque fired and I think I did a much better job on it, especially with the foot. I hope to complete this project in the next couple of days so I can move on to making my cups.

Artist Statement

The three artists I chose really interested me. I really like Susan Beiner's work and how she uses more than just clay to create something amazing. I like how Steve Irvine uses color and glazing to really make his work stand out. And I like how Matthew Yanchuk only uses one bright color and then black and white to make something simple extraordinary. Artistically right now I know many techniques with glazing and on the wheel and I need to practice and perfect those things. I think I am much better on the wheel than hand-building. Because I am better on the wheel I will probably be making functional things and I would like to perfect my techniques there. I will also try to incorporate some ideas from the artists that I researched. I want to use more than just clay and I also want to experiment with glazes and color. I hope I can use these things and I look forward to a great semester of ceramics.
